My name is Jon Foster. I'm 17 years old, and I'm the youngest professional mobile disc jockey in Southwest Virginia's beautiful Roanoke Valley.

Most people don't keep reading after the heading,
so I appreciate your doing so. I promise you won't
regret it. Anyway, I've been in the mobile
DJ business for about three years.
A lot of people ask how I got into the mobile DJ business, and well, sometimes I even wonder how it all got started. When I was in the 8th grade, a family friend named Buddy Hartge was DJ'ing a dance at my middle school. I had always thought radio jocks were cool, so I had my mom introduce me. He mentored me for the first year or so, and here I am. He grew out of it (which means he got a job with benefits) and I took over. I love being my own boss, and I love my work.

Despite what some might think, being the youngest DJ in town has its benefits. Imagine, if you will, that you are having a party for your 14 year old daughter, and you have two different DJ's competing for your business. You have, on one hand, a 17 year old professional, and on the other, a 42 year old veteran. Which DJ do you think is going to be more entertaining, the one who's new to the business or the one who's tired of it?

So far, all the people I've asked that question have chosen me. This is a matter of preference; but even beyond this most notable benefit of being a young disc jockey, their are other advantages: it is second nature for me to know the music, as a young person; it is easier for me to relate to the younger people whom I'll primarily be playing for, and that makes a better party; I stay up on the latest technology, to provide the best service; and the list goes on.

Well, what if you're not the teenage partier? What if you need a DJ for your wedding, high school reunion, or corporate banquet? The benefits are still the same; I'm a young, professional and I'm excited to do what I'm doing - energy is contagious.
